St Emilion
This charming medieval village is located in the heart of the world’s famous wine-producing area, Bordeaux. Its history dates back to 2nd century AD, when the Romans planted the first vineyards here.
Thanks to its ideal geological and climate conditions for winemaking, St Emilion is one of the largest wine-producing regions in Bordeaux with more than 800 different producers on just 5,565 hectares of land!
In 1999, St Emilion was added to the World Heritage List by UNESCO as a Cultural Landscape. It was the first time a vineyard has been recognised for its historical landscape and traditional production activity.
